Iran has accused the United States of trying to overthrow the Islamic Republic government.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, speaking at a function in London on Sunday said aim of establishing a new Iran Action Group in the U.S. State Department would fail.

He said Tehran will not let the history repeat itself, reffereing to 1953 US-based coup that ousted nationalist Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh.

Meanwhile, IRNA quoted Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani as saying the coup is the best historical lesson that Americans cannot be trusted.

He said Americans are imposing sanctions but they claim they are supporting freedom, human rights, and global and regional security.
