Pak Army fully capable to defeat any form of aggression: Army Chief
General Raheel Sharif says Operation Zarb-e-Azb reflects commitment of the nation to eliminate terrorism from the country.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif says Pakistan army is capable of deterring and defeating aggression across the entire spectrum of threat.
Addressing the passing out parade at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul on Saturday, he assured that the army will render any sacrifice in defending the motherland.
He stated in unequivocal terms that there should be no doubt that any aggression against our beloved motherland will get a befitting response.
He said we persistently seek peace in the region and beyond. This quest for peace is our nation's greatest strength. We desire regional stability and relationship based on equality and mutual respect.
The Army Chief said lasting peace in the region will only come about with the fair and just resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri people as enshrined in the UN resolutions. He said cohesion and repression of the Kashmiri people will never shake their confidence to ultimately exercise their freedom of choice promised by the international community. He expressed the confidence that the aspirations of the Kashmiri brethren will eventually be realized.
General Raheel Sharif hoped the new political dispensation in Afghanistan will bring peace and stability in the lives of people and the region at large. He said Pakistan Army in its capacity will do all necessary to support Afghan security forces in every possible manner.
The Army Chief said Pakistan Army is truly a symbol of national unity and hope thriving on the aspirations of the people of Pakistan. The army has also lived up to the expectations of the nation in times of any external aggression, internal security, nation building tasks or natural calamities such as floods and quakes.
Referring to the internal situation in the country, Raheel Sharif said rapidly changing geo political environment and globally asserting non state actors have put Pakistan in the center stage. In its wake it has brought new challenges and opportunities for Pakistan. This, he said, has put enormous burden of responsibility and deliverance on Pakistan Army. Shying away from adversities is not in our nature. We have resolved to face these squarely as this is the surest route to success.
On Zarb-e-Azb operation, he said Operation Zarb-e-Azb is not an operation but a resolve and commitment of the nation to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that the network of terrorists has been destroyed. He hoped the displaced families of FATA will be able to return to their homes sooner than expected in view of the successes of the operation.
He said cohesive and timely involvement of all stakeholders and state institutions is essential in order to bring lasting peace in FATA and the country at large.
The army chief said Pakistan Army stands for the virtues of true democratic values and rule of law. He said any reservations about our intent are not only misplaced but also detrimental for the country.
