Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said the government is committed to promote tax culture, broaden the tax net and ensure improvement in tax to GDP ratio.

Chairing the inaugural meeting of Tax Reforms Commission in Islamabad on Saturday, he asked the members to suggest measures for ensuring equitable taxation as well as enhancement in tax to GDP ratio.

He also called upon the Commission to put forth suggestions for devising a proper appellate system to effectively dispose of litigation cases.

Ishaq Dar pointed out that as a result of positive economic measures, the government regained confidence of international financial institutions like the ADB and the World Bank, which are ready to fund important projects in Pakistan.

He lamented that the politics of sit-ins damaged image of the country abroad. He, however, expressed the confidence that the government would keep up with its programme for economic development.

The newly formed Tax Reforms Commission has broad-based representation from both houses of the Parliament, business community, professionals, Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the civil society. It will chalk out a comprehensive plan to revamp the revenue collection system.
