The United Nations has announced to initiate fresh peace talks among Syrian factions early next month.

In a statement, the UN Special Envoy for Syria said the talks would focus on various issues, including constitution, governance, elections, and fight against terrorism.

He said the United Nations intends to convene further rounds of talks in August and in September this year.

Meanwhile, the United States has welcomed the Syrian Army's decision to halt combat operations in the southern city of Daraa.

In a statement, US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert urged the Syrian opposition groups to halt attacks to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
