Social media vital tool for change, development: Azam Khan
Secretary Information says social media can promote trade links between SAARC countries.
Secretary Information and Broadcasting Azam Khan has said that social media is a vital tool for change and development and can be utilized for peace and prosperity of the SAARC region.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of two day workshop on "Role of Social Media in Integration of the SAARC Region" held under the auspices of SAARC Information Centre, Nepal in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Islamabad on Thursday.
The Secretary Information said that social media can promote trade links between the SAARC countries through citizen to citizen and government to government transactions. He said SAARC can play an effective role for bringing together various active groups of its member countries by encouraging formation of interest groups of different sectors to exchange knowledge information and new developments.
Addressing the ceremony Director General Cyber Wing Ministry of Information Naeem Khan said that with the emergence of social media new complexities and abuses have also surfaced. He said its regulation and surveillance under law is necessary for better and beneficial use.
Director SAARC Information Centre, Mr. Laxmi Bilas Koirala said that the workshop will help deliberations on the social media for its effective use for the betterment of the people of the region. He said it will also help strengthening the bonds of friendship among the member countries.
Delegations from the SAARC member countries are participating in the workshop during which different sessions are being held to discuss important aspects of the social media .
