January 18, 2018

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said that the Afghan National Army will not last more than six months without US support and the Afghan government will also collapse.

In an interview with CBS News, the Afghan President acknowledged his government’s absolute dependence on Washington.

Meanwhile, Gen John Nicholson, the commander of US forces in Afghanistan has said in the same programme that with America’s new strategy he was certain to win the longest war in Afghanistan.

In a report titled “Kabul under siege while America’s longest war rages on”, the US news channel noted that the sixteen years long Afghan war has cost 2,400 American lives besides one trillion dollars.

The US contributes around 90 per cent of Afghanistan’s defence budget.
