NA-120

Polling for by-election in NA-120 constituency Lahore is in full swing in a peaceful manner. 

 

According to reports, polling started 8:00 am in the morning and it will continue till 5:00 pm without any break.

 

In all forty-four candidates, including 32 independent and 12 from different political parties are taking part in the bye-election.

 

Begum Kalsoom Nawaz of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Faisal Mir from Pakistan People's Party and Dr. Yasmeen Rashid from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are the main contestants.

 

Under a pilot project, one hundred biometric verification machines are being used on trial basis in 39 polling stations of the constituency.

 

To ensure smooth and peaceful polling process, strict security measures are in place inside and outside the polling stations and fifteen hundred Army personnel will also remain vigilant till the results are announced.   

           

ECP

The Spokesperson of Election Commission of Pakistan has said that the polling process for bye-election in the constituency of NA-120 is underway peacefully.

 

Talking to PTV on Sunday, Haroon Shanwari said that the commission has issued directions to stop the member parliament to enter into the jurisdiction of polling stations.

 

NOMINATION

The filing of nomination papers for by-election on a vacant seat of National Assembly, NA- 4 Peshawar begins on Monday.

 

According to Provincial Election Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the nomination papers can be filed till Wednesday.

           

Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted from 21st to 23rd of this month.

           

Polling will be held on 26th of next month.

           

The seat fell vacant due to the death of former MNA Gulzar Khan of PTI last month.                                                                   

            

MAMNOON:

Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to further promote bilateral ties between the two countries. 

 

This agreement was reached at a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, in Ashgabat on Sunday.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the president said land, road, air and rail connectivity between the two countries will help enhance trade and prosperity.

 

He said both the countries have equal stance on regional and global issues and there are enormous opportunities to boost trade.

 

The President also invited Tajikistan to benefit from the trade route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

 

The president said Pakistan gives high importance to the timely completion of CASA-1000 projects.

 

Tajik President on the occasion said that his country will send its trade delegation to the 10th Expo of Pakistan. He also assured that Tajikistan will also take step to restore direct air connectivity with Pakistan.                     

 

CM-TURKEY:

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif says new opportunities and avenues have been opened for investment and entrepreneurship due to enhancement of cooperation between the two countries.  

 

He was talking to Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Rajab Akdghan during meeting in Istanbul.

 

Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government is starting Motorbikes Ambulance service in nine cities of the province in collaboration with the Turkish health ministry. 

 

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister said that it is our responsibility to help our brothers in Pakistan in the hour of difficulty.

 

The Chief Minister is now reached Lahore after completing his visit.

                      

EXPRESSWAY:

The Federal Government has approved construction of two expressways to connect Malakand Division with China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

 

In an exclusive interview with our Peshawar correspondent, adviser to the Prime Minister Engineer Amir Muqam said the one expressway will be constructed from Chakdara, Lower Dir to Khawaza Khela in Swat District. 

 

The other expressway will be constructed between Khawaza Khela and Bisham, Shangla district.

 

Engineer Amir Muqam said feasibility study of the expressways is in progress.

 

Six billion rupees have been allocated for this purpose in the current budget.                      

 

POLIO-DRIVE:

An anti-polio drive begins in different parts of the country on Monday to eradicate the decease.   

 

In Punjab, four-day anti polio campaign will also be started in Sargodha, Multan, Lodhran, Vehari Khanewal, Hafizabad and Rajanpur districts from on Monday.

 

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, over six point six million children will be vaccinated in anti-polio campaign beginning from on Monday.

 

In Balochistan, a three-day anti-polio drive will begin from on Monday. The campaign has already kicked off in Quetta on Sunday. More than 2.4 million children less than the age of five years will be administered anti polio drive.

 

In Gilgit Baltistan, national immunization campaign against polio begins on Monday. Over two lac forty three thousand children will be administered anti polio drops.

       

Strict security arrangements are being made to avoid any untoward incident.   

 

BLAST-BAJAUR

Six people including Tehsildar Fawad Ali and five levies personnel embraced martyrdom in a roadside blast in Tangi Gari Kal area of Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

 

According to official source, several people were also injured in the blast.

 

The tehsildar along with levies personnel were patrolling in the area when their vehicle was targeted with a remote control device.

 

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has strongly condemned the blast in Bajour and expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the incident.

 

In a statement on Sunday, he reaffirmed the commitment of the government in defeating the menace of terrorism in the country.

 

He said the enemies of the country want to sabotage the economic development of Pakistan.

 

ACCIDENT

Three persons were killed and another injured in a road accident at Tarnab Farm area near Peshawar on Sunday afternoon.

                 

FILM:

The government has taken concrete steps for revival, restoration and development of film and entertainment industry in the country.    

 

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a special package was announced by the government on the proposal of the Ministry.

 

It said the National Film and Broadcasting Commission, National Film City and Institute and an Academy equipped with modern facilities with the state of the art technology are expected to be announced soon.

 

It said that a Prime Minister Artists Welfare Fund has also been established under the cabinet Division to appreciate the work of artists and support them financially in recognition to their services.

 

DEATH

A prominent artist Iftikhar Qaisar passed away in Peshawar on Sunday morning after protracted illness.

 

He was about sixty.

 

Iftikhar Qaisar acted in Urdu, Pashto and Hindko plays of Pakistan Television for more than forty years.

 

He had received the President's Pride of Performance Award for his outstanding performance.

 

His nimaz-e-janaza will be offered at Kohati gate locality of Peshawar at 04 pm on Sunday evening.

 

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned actor and poet Iftikhar Qasiar.

               

OIC

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation will hold several meetings on the sidelines of 72nd session of UN General Assembly in New York beginning from on Monday. 

 

The foreign ministers of the OIC Member States are expected to hold a coordination meeting to discuss the issues of interest to the OIC that are on the agenda of the current session of the UNGA.

 

The OIC contact group on Occupied Kashmir will also meet to discuss the issue on the sidelines of the session.

 

Meanwhile, the Special Ministerial Committee on Palestine will hold a meeting to discuss the developments regarding the Palestinian issue.

 

There will also be a ministerial meeting of the Contact Group on the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar, who are being subjected to persecution, displacement and ethnic cleansing.

 

UN-MYANMAR

United Nation's Secretary-General Antonio has urged Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi to halt an army offensive against Rohingya Muslims.

 

In an interview, the UN Secretary-General warned the offensive could amount to ethnic cleansing.

 

The secretary-general reiterated that the Rohingya Muslims should be allowed to return home.

In Afghanistan, four people have been killed and 14 others injured in an explosion at a market in Khost.
