NATO says large scale military exercises by Russia and Belarus could be seen as a serious preparation for a big war.

This has been stated by head of NATO's Military Committee Gen. Petr Pavel in an exclusive interview with Associated Press.

He said NATO is increasing efforts to re-establish the military-to-military communications with Russia to avoid any unintended consequences of potential incidents during the exercise.

The Zapad war games are being conducted in Belarus and reportedly involve 5,500 Russian and 7,200 Belarusian troops.
