India: Police killed 16 Maoist rebels in central state of Chhattisgarh
In India, Police have killed sixteen Maoist rebels in the central state of Chhattisgarh.
According to the chief of India's anti-Maoist force, the clash took place near Bijapur district which has seen a long-running insurgency by Maoists.
The rebels are active in several eastern and central states of India and they routinely target the Indian security forces. Twenty-four Indian troops were killed last month by the rebels in the Bijapur district.
