Govt Focusing On Generating More Revenue By Broadening Tax Base: Ahsan
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal says Pakistan has bright prospects of economic growth in years to come. He was chairing Annual Plan Coordination Committee meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday. He said the government is focusing on generating more revenue by broadening the tax base, simplifying the tax procedure and strengthening tax administration. Ahsan Iqbal said over five percent GDP growth rate is expected at the end of the current financial year.
Country's Electricity Generation Reached New Record High Of 17720MW Today
The country's electricity generation touched new record high at 17720MW today at 3:00 pm. According to spokesperson of Ministry of Water and Power, the highest generation recorded last year was 17430 megawatts. He said the hydel component contributed 5240 megawatts, GENCOs 2901 megawatts while IPPs produced 9579 megawatts. Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has congratulated the nation and reiterated the government resolve to take every step to enhance production of electricity. He said that addition of more power will further help in bridging the gap between demand and supply.
The Minister said that maximum relief is being passed on to the consumers.
Pakistan Lodges Protest with Afghanistan Over Detention Of Two Diplomatic Officials
The Afghan Deputy Head of Mission was summoned to the Foreign Office on Wednesday to lodge Pakistan’s strong protest over the incident in which two diplomatic officials in Kabul were detained, reportedly by Afghan security agencies.
The Afghan DHM was conveyed that the incident was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations (1961) and against the spirit of the brotherly relations between the two countries. It was emphasized that such incidents undermined the constructive engagement which the two countries envisaged for strengthening of bilateral ties.
