Mali's foreign minister, Abdoulaye Diop has urged the U.N. Security Council to authorize the G-5 force to protect people in the five countries from the danger of terrorism.

In a statement he said the five-nation force should be deployed immediately.

Earlier, leaders of the G5 - Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Chad - created the joint force to fight terrorism, trans-national organized crime and human trafficking.
