Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has directed Statistics Division and Pakistan Bureau of Statistics that every effort should be made to ensure credible and transparent national census next year. In a statement, he directed to take all necessary steps to start the 6th National Census on March 15 as decided by the Council of Common Interests. The Minister highlighted that reliable data gathered from the census will play a vital role in adequate planning, policy-building, and effective delivery of services to the people. Earlier, the Council of Common Interests decided to begin Population Census on the 15th of March next year.

Pakistan to not accept any modifications to Indus water treaty

Pakistan has made it clear that it will not accept any modifications or changes to Indus Water Treaty. In an interview in Washington, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi said Pakistan's position is based on the principles enshrined in the treaty. The treaty must be honored in letter and spirit. The treaty signed in 1960, gives India control over the three eastern rivers of the Indus basin while Pakistan the three western rivers. However, the Indian side is repeatedly threatening to revoke the treaty and stop the flow of waters to Pakistan.
