UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for an immediate ceasefire by all parties in Yemen.
In a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, he said a political solution is the best way out of the conflict.
Ban Ki-moon said he is trying to find a new representative who can be immediately deployed in Yemen.
Meanwhile, Al-Qaida has consolidated control over much of the Yemen's Hadramawt province.
According to reports, they have captured a major airport, an oil terminal and the area's main military base.
They are striking an alliance with local tribal leaders to administer the region.
