In occupied Kashmir , the authorities have placed the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, and the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house detention and arrested senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt, in Srinagar.

The action has been taken to prevent the leaders from expressing solidarity with the families of the two civilians, who were recently martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter in Tral, and leading demonstrations against the killings. The puppet authorities have deployed heavy contingents of Indian troops and police personnel outside the residences of Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, asking both the leaders not to venture out.

The Indian police arrested Masarrat Aalam Butt after raiding his house in Zaindar area of Srinagar and lodged him in Shaheed Gunj Police Station.

The leaders had appealed the people to march towards Tral area, today, to protest against the killing of the civilians by Indian troops in a fake encounter on Monday.

Meanwhile, curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Tral, Awantipora and adjoining areas to stop people from staging anti-India and pro-freedom demonstrations
