Health Minister reaffirms govt's resolve to make Pakistan polio-free

Federal Health Minister Aamer Mehmood Kiani has reaffirmed government's resolve to make Pakistan a polio free country.

He was talking to regional Director of World Health Organization Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, who called on him in Islamabad on Monday.

The Minister thanked the WHO cooperation to Pakistan in its polio eradication efforts.

He said the health ministry is also working on dealing with the TB and HIV issues on priority basis.

He said the health card system has been extended to all the districts across the country and about fourteen million families covering eighty million people will be registered under the scheme.

The Minister said the government is also committed to enhance funding on the health cover and it will be increased up to five percent of GDP by 2023.

Aamer Mehmood Kiani said a pilot project with the collaboration of WHO is being launched in twelve districts of all the four provinces to achieve the target of universal health coverage under various family practice patterns.

Director General Dr Asad Hafeez briefed the WHO regional director about the latest reforms and challenges being faced in the health sector.
