May 17, 2020

Dr. Salman Shah (Advisor Punjab Government):

Pakistan is faced with an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19 pandemic. All the production, marketing, retail stores have been closed down globally. International travel, international investment and international trade have scaled down due to this catastrophic event. The Incumbent government is taking concrete measures to cope with this economic challenge and making it sure that the unemployed people do not die of hunger and poverty. The shutdown business should be reopened and business owner must have working capital and financing to start their business again. The whole system from production to sales has been affected by corona and more financing is required to restart the economic activities. We should not lightly take the consequences of not following the SOP.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai (Rector Islamic International University):

The education system in Pakistan is linked with universities and colleges. We cannot risk the lives of hundreds of thousands of students by gathering them at one place. It has been decided that all the educational institutes would remain close till 15th of July. We are moving towards the online education system. Our institutions and staff are prepared and well equipped to complete the semester through online classes. Extra efforts are required to sensitize the masses regarding the Standard Operating Procedures and precautionary measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately people are not taking this threat seriously. It is our moral responsibility to observe all precautionary measures to stay safe. There is dire need to conduct more medical research in Pakistan.

Dr. Qaiser Sajjad (Secretary General Pakistan Medical Association):

We have enhanced our testing capacity; however, there is need to further improve it. The paramedics’ staff is highly vulnerable group. There is dire need to provide more preventive kits to paramedics’ staff because their lives are at risk. I appeal to the medical staff to observe all precautionary measures before examining the patients. The doctors and nurses are our front line warriors right now and their safety must be the priority.

Dr. Khurrum Iqbal (IR Expert):

The Modi regime has tarnished the secular and democratic face of India. India has become an international stigma of atrocity and brutality. Indian government is following the footsteps of Israel and exceeding all limits of atrocities to change demography of Indian Occupied Kashmir. The world powers have folded a blind eye towards Kashmir issue only for their strategic and economic interests. It is important to understand that the present world behavior needs to be changed. The Indian government is using Covid-19 as a weapon against Muslims. The Indian economy has scaled down and Modi would show aggression towards Pakistan to hide its own economic situation. Pakistan security forces should remain vigilant enough to give befitted response to Indian hostility. Pakistan intelligentsia and Media should play an important role to sensitize the international community regarding Kashmir dispute.
