The United Nations says nearly 300,000 children have returned to UN run schools in conflict-torn Syria and Gaza as the school year kicks off.

In a statement, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Pierre Krahenbuhl said some 240,000 children returned to Schools in Gaza while 50,000 in Syria.  

Both in Gaza and Syria, the Agency has adopted measures that protect education including establishing schools in safer areas.
