A World Bank report says the number of people living in extreme poverty in South Asia has fallen to 13.5 percent of the region's population.

The report observed that South Asia has been an important contributor to the long sustained global reduction in poverty.

The World Bank supported Pakistan's BISP saying it is one of the largest programmes in South Asia.

The Bank said BISP is currently providing income support to almost 4.8 million families and about 18 million people.
