Prime Minister arrives in Hong Kong on a three-day official visit on Tuesday to seek investment in different sectors.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrives in Hong Kong on Tuesday on a three-day official visit.


During his stay in Hong Kong, the Prime Minister will address One Belt One Road Pakistan Investment Forum, which will be participated by leading business companies of Hong Kong and Mainland China.


The Investment Forum is being organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Hong Kong in collaboration with the Government of Hong Kong SAR.


According to Consulate General of Pakistan, the focus of the Forum will be to highlight business opportunities emerging from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR C.Y. Leung will also address the forum.


During his visit, the Prime Minister will also meet Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR. They will discuss enhancing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Hong Kong, particularly in the Belt and Road projects.


The Prime Minister will also hold meetings with executives of leading business companies of Hong Kong and Mainland China.


The Prime Minister will also meet Mrs. Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive-elect Hong Kong, during his stay in Hong Kong.



Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif says Connectivity between Pakistan and China is aimed at connecting  peoples and nations across the world.


In his statement following the Joint Communiqué of the Belt and Road Forum, he said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will connect on a much broader scale, two regions, which in turn will provide links to the Middle East and Africa on one side and Europe and the rest of the world on the other.


He congratulated the Chinese President for this visionary initiative of "One Belt-One Road" with the theme of "Cooperation for Common Prosperity.


He said in resolving to uphold the spirit of peace, cooperation, transparency, equality, mutual learning, mutual benefit, and mutual respect, within the framework and principles of the United Nations Charter and international laws, this initiative provides an excellent model for "win-win" cooperation at the global level.


He said the Belt and Road Forum is the pathway to a global model of inclusive development based on the universal principles of shared prosperity that President Xi so strongly upholds.



Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says the government is focusing on achieving higher GDP growth rate up to six percent to provide  better life and job opportunities to the people.


In an interview with financial newspaper "The Nikkie",  he said Pakistan is determined to funnel more money toward infrastructure, small businesses and the poor in this regard.


The Finance Minister said the government has also found an array of international partners to make it happen.         .


Ishaq Dar said with partnerships of the UK Department for International Development and the German government-owned development bank, KfW, we have created the Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company.


To a question, he said Islamabad has also established Pakistan Development Fund, which will invest in public-sector projects outside the budget. 


He said power infrastructure is a top priority and twenty-five thousand megawatts thermal, hydro and renewable projects are in the pipeline, with 10 thousand megawatts to come on stream by March next year.   



Morgan Stanley Capital International has upgraded the status of Pakistan Stock Exchange from Frontier Market to Emerging Market.


According to a notification, the MSCI Pakistan Indexes will fully converge with the MSCI Provisional Pakistan Indexes, effective June 1, 2017.


Pakistan has reachieved the status after a gap of nine years.


The upgradation will open the doors of Pakistan Stock Exchange to international investors.



Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab has directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on development schemes and timely utilization of funds before budget.


He was chairing a meeting of Prime Minister's Sustainable Development Program in Islamabad, which discussed allocation of funds to various schemes throughout the country.


Sheikh Aftab also asked for timely completion of gas supply projects and said the government is ready to facilitate the district authorities to speed up the work.


The minister was also briefed by the chairman OGRA on the current status of gas supply to various new schemes in different areas.



Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has emphasized the need to strengthen relations and enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.


Talking to a delegation of Bangladeshi journalists in Islamabad, she said that the shared art and culture could provide a point of convergence of interests between the two countries.  


Maryam Aurangzeb reiterated that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had a vision of peaceful co-existence and harmony in the region and it was accordingly was vigorously pursuing the concept of ‘peaceful neighbourhood’.



Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah who is on official visit to China called on Commander Peoples Liberation Army's Navy, Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong at Beijing.


They discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral naval collaboration including Maritime Security and Stability, Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan, Counter Piracy Operations, drug trafficking and joint collaboration in various projects.


Admiral Zakaullah thanked Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong for active participation by PLA(N) in Multinational Naval Exercise AMAN 17.


Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong highly appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Navy to maintain collaborative security in the Indian Ocean and beyond.



Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider says Pakistan has been extending political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Occupied Kashmir and the freedom movement.


Talking to a private news channel, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has raised Kashmir issue at all national and international forums effectively.


He said according to track record of Narendra Modi, it is not expected that he would take steps to resolve Kashmir issue.



The United States says it has evidence that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government built a crematorium at a large military prison outside the capital Damascus.


Acting Assistant Secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs Stuart Jones told newsmen in Washington that US officials believe the facility could be used to dispose of bodies at Sednaya prison.


The allegation comes at a time when another round of Syria peace talks between government and opposition begins in Geneva on Tuesday.




Meanwhile, thirty-six persons have been killed in various acts of violence in Syria.



Palestinian envoy to the United States Husam Zomlot has said any new Israeli-Palestinian peace push must be based on a two-state solution.


In a speech at the Arab Center Washington think tank, he said any final agreement would have to satisfy the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for a state of their own.


The US President Donald Trump will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem on 23rd of this month during his Middle East tour.



Germany and France have agreed to develop a medium-term roadmap to deepen European Union integration.


The agreement came during a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin.


Both leaders also discussed measures to make the euro zone more resilient against crises.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has felicitated the newly appointed French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.


In a felicitation message he said Pakistan and France are enjoying cordial and friendly relations based on democratic values and shared perceptions on major international issues.


The Prime Minister hoped that under his leadership, the existing friendly ties between the two countries would be further strengthened.



Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch says the Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill has been introduced in the National Assembly in order to replace Frontier Crimes Regulations.


Speaking in the National Assembly, he said there is consensus amongst the entire nation over the abolishment of the FCR.


He said the Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill will also give right to the tribal people to file their appeals before Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court.
