Pakistan offers bright prospects for e-commerce investment: PM
PM Nawaz Sharif visits Alibaba Group HQ in Zhejiang.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited offices of Alibaba company in Zhejiang on Tuesday.
In his remarks on the occasion, he said Pakistan is an emerging economy and the government is striving hard for prosperity of the people.
The Prime Minister said as a result of policies pursued by the government since 2013, there is marked improvement in the economic conditions of the country.
He said it is an era of e-commerce and the government is also focusing on it.
Nawaz Sharif said there are bright prospects for investment in e-commerce in Pakistan.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was briefed about history, working and performance of the company.
On this occasion, an MoU was also signed with the company, which was inked by Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir from Pakistan side.
The Prime Minister also witnessed the signing ceremony.
The Prime Minister said he was a firm believer of political empowerment of people through economic empowerment. He said e-commerce is a catalyst for economic inclusion and consequently of political empowerment.
Mian Nawaz Sharif said during the past four years, the Government has promoted digital and financial inclusion of all particularly most disadvantage segments of population. The Government has made ICT (information and communication technologies) services more affordable across the board to support, among other things, digital transactions and transfers.
The Prime Minister said it is for this reason that he appreciates the interest of the Ali Baba Group in establishing an e-platform in Pakistan. Mian Nawaz Sharif said he has issued instructions for facilitation of the Group in this initiative in every possible manner within the shortest possible timeframe.
