The United Nations Security Council has planned to pull more than eight thousand troops of peacekeeping force out of Darfur region of Sudan.

According to a top Sudanese diplomat, the UN's peacekeeping department has submitted a proposal to the UN Security Council to reduce the number of peacekeepers deployed in Darfur and modify the terms of the peacekeeping mission's mandate.

He said we have received assurances that the decision will be made to reduce the troops stationed at Darfur as agreed upon earlier between Khartoum, the UN and the African Union as part of a gradual exit strategy.
