SARTAJ

Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz says China is Pakistan's close and iron friend.

 

He was addressing a ceremony after inaugurating Pak-China Study Centre along with Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong in Islamabad today.

 

The adviser said the multi billion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has further strengthened relations between the two countries over the last four years.

 

He said the mega project will improve connectivity among peoples in the region.

 

Sartaj Aziz pointed out China is the second biggest economy in the world. He said both Islamabad and Beijing can make forward movement by taking advantage of each other's experiences.

 

In his remarks, the Chinese ambassador said the establishment of the study centre will help peoples of the two countries better understand each other's policies.

 

AGREEMENT

Asian Development Bank will finance three hundred million dollars in Sustainable Energy Sector Reforms program in Pakistan.

 

An agreement to this effect was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Division Tariq Pasha and ADB`s Country Director Xiaohang Yang in Islamabad today. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also witnessed the signing ceremony.

 

Under the agreement, the bank will assist Pakistan in improving reliability, affordability and sustainability of energy sector to  support the economic growth.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said energy sector is central to this program and the efforts in this sector will impact the overall economic progress of the country.

 

He expressed the confidence that there will be no power load-shedding after November this year.

 

Ishaq Dar said ADB is appreciative of the achievements Pakistan has made so far to overcome the challenges of energy sector.

 

On the occasion, the ADB Country Director said the agreement is important as Pakistan is making serious efforts to overcome the energy crisis.

 

SHAHBAZ

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif says education sector has been improved with the unprecedented steps taken by the provincial government.

 

In a statement issued in Lahore today, he said four hundred and sixty-two thousand girls are getting scholarships in sixteen backward districts of the province. 

 

The Chief Minister said six point five billion rupees have been allocated for this program in next fiscal year's budget.

 

He said thirty-six thousand additional rooms are being built in schools under Khadim-e-Punjab School program.

 

Shahbaz Sharif said twenty thousand schools will be converted on solar panels in southern Punjab.

Sindh High Court has rejected the petition of Hajj Organizers Association of Pakistan seeking increase in quota of private Hajj operators.

  

Hearing the case in Karachi today, the court ordered to maintain the quota of private Hajj operators at forty percent. The court also removed stay order on Hajj Quota Policy 2017.

 

OATH

Three Additional Judges of Peshawar High Court took oath of their offices in Peshawar today.

    

Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Yahya Afridi administered the oath.

 

The new judges include Justice Muhammad Nasir Mehfooz, Justice Shakil Ahmad and Justice Syed Arshed Ali.

 

 

AITKAF

Hundreds of thousands of faithful will observe Aitkaf across the country today, practicing the Sunnah of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).

 

The faithful observing Aitkaf will sit in seclusion in mosques, before Maghrib today and worship till the sighting of Shawwal moon. During this period, they will offer special prayers and seek Allah Almighty's blessings and mercy.

 

In major mosques across the country like Faisal Masjid in Islamabad, lectures from religious scholars have specially been arranged for Aitkaf observers to educate them about true Islamic teachings.

 

RANGERS

Two terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by Rangers in Dera Ghazi Khan last night.

 

According to ISPR, the terrorists were planning terror attack on a religious ceremony.

 

UNGA

The UN General Assembly has approved the establishment of a new UN office to help member states implement the organization's global counter-terrorism strategy.

         

Speaking on the occasion, President UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson said the resolution will ensure greater coordination and coherence across the UN system.
