A meeting of the Election Commission was held in Islamabad on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza.

The matter regarding updation, synchronization and revision of electoral rolls in general and for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in particular were discussed in detail.

Keeping in view the forthcoming LG elections in KPK, expected to be held in May, 2015, it was decided to initiate arrangements for inclusion of names of new NIC holders entitled to be enrolled as voters and exclusion of voters who have become disqualified due to death, nationality surrender, cancelled NICs etc.

The same exercise will also be carried out in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan after completion of delimitation exercise in these provinces.

Approximately 7.8 million new NICs, issued by NADRA after General Elections-2013, will be included in the Electoral Rolls and about 0.5 million deceased and disqualified voters will be excluded from the Electoral Rolls.

Initially, 1.2 million voters will be included in the KPK Electoral Rolls so that no new NIC holder from KPK is disenfranchised during KPK LG elections.
