Analysts call for negotiated settlement of Pakistan-India disputes, including Kashmir issue
National Security Committee reviews internal, external security situation, foreign policy imperatives
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says regional peace and progress is directly linked to resolution of all outstanding issues, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting reviews internal and external security situation and the foreign policy imperatives in regional and global context. The Committee expresses grave concern over frequent incidents of cross-border firing by Indian forces over the Line of Control and strongly condemned the grave violations of human rights inflicted upon innocent people of Occupied Kashmir. It reaffirms its continued commitment to pursue peace and stability in Afghanistan through an Afghan owned and Afghan-led peace process.
Analysts on Telephone:
Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Khan (IR Expert):
The prevailing situation along LoC is of serious concerns and international community realizes that India is responsible for all of this. Indian forces are targeting the civilians along the border area and have killed many people so far. The meeting of National Security Committee held today reviewed internal and external security situation and the foreign policy imperatives in regional and global context. India is making all-out efforts to isolate Pakistan and wants to keep our country under pressure.
Fauzia Nasreen (Former Ambassador):
It is always the Pakistan's desire to resolve all outstanding issues with India through dialogue, but India never expressed serious concerns in this regard. The continuous violation at LoC and the Working Boundary is a clear sign that India is not willing to resolve disputes with Pakistan through dialogue. Kashmir is main cause of Indo-Pak tensions and it must be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions.
Brig (Retd) Said Nazir (Defense Analyst):
The National Security Committee’s meeting held today is vital as it resolved to taking measures for controlling the movement from Afghan side of the border besides cross-border firing and shelling and also issues related to national security were also discussed. The world is well aware of Pakistan’s important geographical location in the region and that Pakistan could play a vital role in restoring peace in Afghanistan. Peace in Afghanistan is also in best interest of Pakistan.
