JRL urges human rights organizations to take notice of sedition case against Kashmiri students
January 16, 2019

In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have condemned the filing of a charge-sheet by Delhi police against seven Kashmiri students in a sedition case.

The leadership in a statement in Srinagar urged the international human rights organisations including International Committee of Red Cross, Asia Watch and Amnesty International to take serious notice of such nefarious practices aimed at ruining the careers of the Kashmiri students.

The Delhi police had filed the charge-sheet naming former JNU student leaders and seven Kashmiri students as accused in the case of raising slogans in favour of freedom of Kashmir during a function at Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2016.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar deplored that persistent denial of Kashmiris’ basic rights by India had turned Kashmir into a hell.

Senior APHC leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has strongly reacted to the reports about the tagging and filing of yet another plea against the Article 370 in the Indian Supreme Court.

He said anti-Kashmir forces in India were hell-bent upon changing the demography of Jammu and Kashmir by tampering with the special status and Muslim majority character of the territory.

The forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed serious concern over the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails in and outside the territory.

The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons released the 2019 calendar that documents the stories of disappeared persons.

Meanwhile, the US-based independent non-profit and non-governmental organization, The Committee to Protect Journalists in a letter to the Governor of occupied Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik, urged him to release journalist, Aasif Sultan, and drop all charges against him.

Asif has been held by Indian police since August 27, 2018.
