Int'l Democracy Day observed
NA Speaker says continuity of democracy is essential for peace and stability in country.
International Democracy Day was observed on Friday (15th September).
In his message on the day, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that continuity of democracy is essential for peace and stability in the country.
He said aim of celebrating the day is to strengthen democratic nations and discourage the dictators.
He said that democracy guarantees economic and social development, international peace and stability and freedom of basic human rights.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, in his message, said democracy is strengthening in Pakistan and parliament is actively working for welfare of the people.
Making a statement on the day Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani urged the government to learn from the mistakes of past and strengthen parliament to reinforce democracy in the country.
He said all the institutions should work within its constitutional limits.
He said any attempt of going beyond the Constitution will destabilize democracy in the country.
The Chairman said that the Parliament should continue playing its guiding and supervisory role in strengthening democracy in the country.
