Pakistan is ready for defeating terrorism and eliminating violent extremism
Pakistan has called for a comprehensive international approach to wipe out terrorists from the world. Speaking in the U.N. Security Council, Pakistan Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi says, failure to redress genuine grievances of the weak against the powerful created the breeding grounds of terrorism. Terrorism could not be associated with any religion, culture or region. Unprecedented use of social media platforms by terrorists allowed them to engage young people, disseminate messages and mobilize recruits. Maleeha Lodhi emphasized countering online radicalization and measures to prevent such groups from exploiting the digital space. Pakistan's National Action Plan to counter terrorism contains six specific action points that directly and indirectly aim to counter the narratives and ideologies of terrorists.
“Pak-KSA parliamentary friendship group discusses future working plan”
The first meeting of Pak-Saudi Parliamentary Friendship Group was held in Islamabad to chalk out the future working plan for the group. Senator Sehar Kamran chaired the meeting. The two countries agreed that they already enjoyed special relations that are not only brotherly but time-tested as well. Love and respect the people of two countries share for each other is exemplary. The members looked forward to establish one to one relations with Saudi Parliament members. Secretary of Middle East and African desk, ministry of foreign affairs briefed the members regarding the Pakistan-KSA relations. He said that, there are more than 2 million Pakistanis residing in KSA and the volume of trade between the two countries is 3.8 billion $
“IMF hails Pakistan’s economic performance”
International Monitory Fund (IMF) has lauded Pakistan's strong economic performance. Talking to Radio China, IMF's country director for Pakistan Harald Finger says Pakistan is achieving macroeconomic stability as a result of economic reforms introduced by government. Pakistani government has achieved required goals in all economic sectors and reduced budget deficit. Result of economic reforms introduced by the incumbent government Pakistan’s economy was flourishing, adding that more people were being provided financial security through the Benazir Income Support Programme
“Government is committed to improve the standard of health facilities in Pakistan: Shahbaz”
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif says the provincial government is committed to ensure standard health facilities to the people. He was chairing a high level meeting in Lahore today, in which progress on measures taken for the provision of healthcare facilities to people was reviewed. The Chief Minister directed free medicines to all patients in the government run hospitals, especially in remote areas of the province

German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel says the finance ministry's calculations included the costs for accommodating and integrating refugees as well as tackling the root causes for people fleeing from crisis-stricken regions. The figure is likely to stoke concerns, particularly among growing anti-immigration movements. On the impact of new arrivals on Europe's largest economy which took in more than a million people last year, many from Syria and other war zones. Officials based their estimates on 600,000 migrants arriving this year, 400,000 next year and 300,000 in each of the following years
“Senate, NA to meet on Monday”
The Senate and National Assembly will resume their sessions at Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday after two days' break. The Senate will meet at 4:00 p.m. while National Assembly at 5:00 p.m. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is expected to give a policy statement on the issue of Panama Papers in the National Assembly session. The Prime Minister has already presented himself and his family for accountability and announced formation of Judicial Commission on the demand of the Opposition. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists had also acknowledged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no offshore company and his name was mistakenly included
“Syrian forces retake Deir al-Zor hospital from ISIS”
Syrian government forces retook a hospital in Deir al-Zor after ISIS attacked it on Saturday. The fighting in and around the hospital also killed at least 24 ISIS fighters. ISIS controls most of Deir al-Zor province and has laid siege since March last year to the remaining government-held areas in the city of the same name, which is close to Syria’s eastern border with Iraq. The Syrian government and its Russian allies make regular aid drops into the encircled city and there are frequent air strikes on ISIS targets in and around Deir al-Zor.
