“India wants hegemony in the region”

In its effort to have a full fledged multi-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system, India today test-fired its indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile, capable of destroying any incoming hostile ballistic missile, from a test range off Odisha coast. "The test conducted to validate various parameters of the interceptor in flight mode has been successful," Defence Research Development Organisation sources said. The interceptor was engaged against a target which was a naval version of Prithvi missile launched from a ship anchored inside Bay of Bengal, taking up the trajectory of a hostile ballistic missile. Last month, the reported successful testing of nuclear-capable K-4 Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) by India from its nuclear-powered INS Arihant has taken India closer to what is described as second-strike capability” in nuclear deterrence.

In an interview in Ankara, Pakistan's ambassador to Turkey, Sohail Mahmood said their security forces are in a regular dialogue on the issue to further cement their cooperation on combating terrorism. It is an on-going process and is always on the agenda for further strengthening security and defence cooperation. The Ambassador said negotiations over Free Trade Agreement are continuing and this agreement would open up vast opportunities for the Pak-Turk business communities.

Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique says the journey of progress will continue under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Addressing a function in Bahawalpur today, he said that the government has started development projects all over the country for the betterment of its masses. Political issues should be resolved at political forums. Political parties should not cross the red lines for point scoring. Negative politics is biggest hurdle in the development of the country. He said the competition among the political parties should be based on their performance rather than allegation.

Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that incumbent government is committed to cope with energy crisis on top priority basis. Government will allocate substantial funds for power projects in the next fiscal year. All resources are being utilized to enhance power generation capacity and to get rid of load shedding. Due to prudent policies of the government the duration of load shedding has been reduced to manifold as compared to previous years. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project will bring revolutionary change and usher in economic growth and prosperity in the country.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz held a meeting in Jeddah the today. During the meeting, they discussed peace efforts and latest developments in Yemen and Syria and bilateral cooperation. Kerry on this occasion appreciated Saudi role for peace efforts in regional conflicts. He also discussed cooperation in fighting terrorism at a meeting with Crown Prince and Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef.

“UN-Mediated Yemen peace talks make some progress: Envoy”

United Nation says progress is being achieved in Yemen peace talks albeit at a relatively slow pace.  UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the two sides discussed proposals to bridge the gap and reached consensus on some issues. He called on all parties to work towards finding a comprehensive solution as soon as possible. Yemeni peace talks are currently under way in Kuwait.  Meanwhile, several political representatives and diplomats urged international community's constant support to the peace process in Yemen.

“Hot, Dry weather expected in most parts”

Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next twenty-four hours. However, rain with dust-thunderstorm is likely to prevail at a few places of Hazara, Lahore, Gujranwala Divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Low pressure area lies over north Balochistan and its trough extending southeastwards. Continental air is expected to prevail over most parts of the country during this week.
