NAWAZ

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has appeared before Joint Investigation Team probing Panama Papers case and the proceedings are in progress at Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad.

 

Earlier, the Prime Minister reached the Academy without official protocol. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif also accompanied him.

 

Radio Pakistan's correspondent says it is for the first time in the country's history that an elected Prime Minister has presented himself for accountability.

 

DANYAL

PML(N) leader Danyal Aziz says JIT has leveled allegations against institutions but presented no evidence in this regard.

 

Talking to newsmen in Islamabad today, he said JIT's allegations are based on talk shows, newspaper clips and twitter accounts.

 

Danyal Aziz pointed out that the Prime Minister and his family have presented themselves for accountability but PTI leader is not appearing before the law and the courts to respond to allegations against him.

 

MEETING

A meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security is underway in Islamabad to discuss the ongoing situation in the Gulf countries.

 

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is presiding over the meeting.

 

Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua are attending the meeting.

 

GILLANI

 In occupied Kashmir, Chairman All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has expressed serious concern over continued harassment of resistance leaders by India’s National Investigation Agency.

 

In a statement Srinagar, he said NIA has no evidence against the resistance leaders but it wants to implicate pro freedom leaders in fake and false cases. APHC leader said health of Altaf Ahmed Shah is worsening.

 

Syed Ali Gilani urged the world human rights organizations to take notice of the war crimes being committed by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

 

TRUMP

US President Donald Trump is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice.

 

US media reports say senior intelligence officials will also be questioned whether President Trump tried to end an inquiry against his sacked national security adviser.

 

President Trump's legal team said the latest leak to the media was outrageous.

 

Mueller is overseeing an FBI inquiry into Russia's alleged meddling the 2016 US election and any Trump links to it.

 

TORA BORA

In Afghanistan,  so-called  Islamic State group has claimed capturing  Tora Bora Mountain in Nangarhar province, which once had been the hideout of Osama Bin Ladin.

 

A message broadcast by Islamic State's "Radio Khilafat" in Pashto language said they have taken over several districts in eastern parts of Afghanistan and urged villagers to return to their homes and stay indoors.

 

However, Afghan officials say the fighting between IS and Taliban, who controlled Tora Bora, had started on Tuesday but they cannot confirm its capture by IS.

 

DAY

Global Wind Day is being observed today. 

 

The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the role of wind power in reshaping global energy systems, decarburizing economies, boosting growth and increasing job opportunities.

 

The theme of the day this year is "discover the power of wind energy".

 

HOCKEY

Pakistan hockey team is playing its first match of the World Cup qualifying round against Holland in London this evening.

 

During the qualifying round, Pakistan will play four matches.

 

Ten teams are participating in the qualifying round and five top teams will play in the World Cup to be played in India next year.

 

SEMI FINAL

The second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy will be played between India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston, Birmingham today.  

 

Pakistan has already qualified for the final of  the tournament by defeating England by eight wickets at Cardiff last night.   

 

The final will be played between Pakistan and the winner of second semi-final at Oval on Sunday.
