Pakistan Navy launched Mangroves Plantations Drive 2019.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Port Qasim in Karachi today [Monday].
According to a spokesman of Pakistan Navy, Commander Coast Vice Admiral Fayyaz Gilani was the chief guest of the ceremony.
Addressing on the occasion, Commander Coast Vice Admiral Fayyaz Gilani said that deforestation of mangroves had affected biodiversity of coastal areas and livelihoods of coastal communities.
He said Pakistan Navy is playing its role for the protection of natural environment along with the defence of coastal belt and it has planted over four million mangroves in the coastal belt in last three years.
It is the fourth drive of Pakistan Navy aimed at planting about two million mangroves at the coastal belt of Sindh and Balochistan during year.
