An International Islamic Conference on polio eradication has commenced at Oman's capital Muscat to make a comprehensive strategy to control the disease with support of religious leaders.
About thirty Ulema from Pakistan and Afghanistan are participating in the conference.
Nazim-e-Aala Wafaqul Madaras, Hafeez Jalandheri briefed the participants about the steps being taken in Pakistan to eradicate the crippling disease and protect the children.
Addressing the conference, Regional Director of World Health Organization's Eastern Mediterranean Region Dr Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari urged religious leaders to come forward and play their due role for eradication of polio.
He said effective strategy is need of the hour to immunize children in high risk areas and called for continuation of efforts till complete eradication of this disease.
