Planning Minister says work of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project is continuing in consultation with the provincial governments.

A Cambodian Senate delegation arrives in Islamabad today to enhance cooperation between senates of the two countries.

AHSAN:  

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal says backward and neglected areas have been given priority for the first time in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to bring them at par with other developed areas.

In an interview, he said the government is committed to complete China-Pakistan Economic Corridor by 2030 at every cost.

He said CPEC is a project of national importance and all forces in the country should express solidarity instead of making political point scoring by making the project controversial.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government is working on eleven points of CPEC agreed with all provinces and did not deviated even from a single point.

 

THAR-ENERGY:

Chief Executive Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company Shamsuddin Shaikh has said that Thar coal is a mega project which would resolve longstanding energy crisis of the country by generating thousands of megawatt electricity.

Addressing a press conference at Mithi, Shamsuddin Shaikh said people of Tharpakar are lucky enough to have one hundred and seventy-five billion ton of coal reserves.   

He said in Block-II coal reserves were into the depth of one hundred and fifty metres and drilling work is in progress and forty metres drilling had been completed while reaming one hundred and ten metres work would soon be completed.               

He said that project of worth two hundred and ten billion dollar on Thar coal Block-II would be completed in next three years which would generate six hundred megawatt electricity.

 

PAK-CAMBODIA:

A delegation of the Senate of Cambodia arrives in Islamabad today on a three-day official visit to Pakistan.

During the visit, Memorandum of Understanding would be signed between the Cambodian Senate and the Senate of Pakistan to enhance mutual cooperation.    

Both sides will brief each other on working of their Senate, committee systems, legislative aspects and functions of different branches of the secretariats.

 

CONDOLENCE:

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of renowned politician and PPP leader Jehangir Badar.

Paying rich tributes to the services of the late politician who passed away in Lahore last night due to cardiac arrest, the President said the contributions of late Jehangir Badar towards strengthening of democracy in the country would always be remembered. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to political struggle of Jehangir Badar. He said Jehangir Badar was a great political asset who worked for the promotion of democratic norms in the country.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has also condoled the death of Jehangir Badar.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana and Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the PPP leader.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman of the party, Asif Ali Zaradari also paid rich tribute to political struggle waged by Jehangir Badar.

In their separate messages they eulogized the political struggle which Jehangir Badar had fought for the promotion of political struggle in the country.

Namaz-e-Janaza of the deceased leader will be offered at 4:00 p.m. in Lahore today.

 

OPERATION

One hundred thirty-seven suspects, including Afghan citizen, have been in a joint search operation in Tarnol and Sangjani areas near Islamabad.

According to police, twenty-five plazas, one hundred and twenty shops and ten hotels were checked during the operation.

Rangers, police and Intelligence agencies participated in the operation.

 

KASHMIR

In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has condemned the use of oppressive and suppressive tactics against the people.

The forum in a statement in Srinagar, said forces have declared a full-scale war on the people in every part of Kashmir by ransacking residences, beating residents, and damaging homes.

 

TRUMP-STAFF

US President-elect Donald Trump has made the first top appointments of his new administration.

Besides others, he nominated Reince Priebus as White House Chief of Staff and Steve Bannon as his chief strategist and senior counselor.

 

SYRIA-KILLING

In Syria, nine militants were killed in an attack of Turkish war planes in al Bab area.

Ten Islamic State defensive positions, command centers and an ammunition store were also destroyed when Turkish warplanes strike fifteen targets in the region.
