About 1,500 fighters and their families are now trapped in nearly a one square kilometer zone.
In Syria, the government forces are on the verge of seizing the rebel-held district of Qaboun, following two months of relentless aerial strikes and artillery shelling.
The Syrian forces had resumed intensive bombardment in the district on Wednesday after a one-day ultimatum to the rebels to surrender and agree to evacuate to rebel-held areas in northern Syria.
According to the rebels and state media, about 1,500 fighters and their families are now trapped in nearly a one square kilometer zone.
