United States reiterates continued support Pakistan’s efforts in combating violent extremism and building a more stable and democratic society-Mark Toner

This was stated by US State Department spokesman Mark Toner at a media briefing in Washington. He said support to Pakistan in the fight against terrorism is in long-term national interest of the United States itself. The spokesman once again lauded the statement of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif that Pakistan's soil will not be allowed to be used against any other country. The spokesman said US policy and position on Kashmir has not changed we still support right of self determination.

Analysts

Air Marshal (Retd.) Shahid Latif (Defense Analyst):

“The timely statement of COAS was the need of the time. Gen Raheel Sharif urged the international community to recognize the aspirations of Kashmiri people, their struggle for freedom and to help resolve the long standing dispute for lasting amity in Kashmir and enduring peace in the region. It is the responsibility of United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with its resolutions. The world needs to play an important role to stop the brutalities of Indian forces in IOK. Indian forces have imposed curfew in IOK and mobile and internet services have been suspended in the valley. International community is adopting a dual policy and is silent over Indian brutalities in Kashmir. Pakistan always supported Kashmir cause on all international forums.”

Dr. A.Z. Hilali (IR Expert):

“US State Department spokesman Mark Toner has rightly said that Pakistan is continuing the operation against militants without any discrimination. Terrorism has reduced to a great extent. Many terrorists have been killed. Their hideouts and networks have been destroyed. International community has not supported Pakistan in this crucial and expensive war. Terrorism is a global issue and Pakistan all alone is fighting the global issue. Pakistan is also fighting against its internal challenges including energy and gas shortages as well. The worlds should realize that Pakistan has an important geographical location and its importance in the region cannot be ignored.”
