In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyet leaders and civil society members on Sunday condemned the arrest of President of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) under sedition charges.

In a statement in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik condemned the sedition charges against students and teachers over holding a function on the martyrdom anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guru.

He termed it as a glaring act of undemocratic attitude of Indian rulers and growing intolerance in India.

Another Hurriyat leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan said in a statement that the action totally negates the Indian claims of democracy and the freedom of expression.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association at its meeting in Srinagar strongly condemned the arrest Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union President, Kanhaya Kumar.
