The Senate was informed today (Friday) that there is no moratorium on death penalty in the country.



Minister of State for Interior Balighur Rehman told the House during question hour that former President Asif Ali Zardari did not implement the death penalties.



He said execution of death sentences was delayed but the government is in the process of consultations to take a decision over the issue.



Balighur Rehman informed the House that five hundred forty-seven people are on death row for their involvement in murder cases and terrorist activities. He said that mercy petitions of 70 cases have already been rejected.



To another question‚ the Minister of State for Interior said National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is working on homeland security projects both at the national and international level.



He said NADRA has earned an amount of 17.50 million dollars from the international projects. Sri Lanka has awarded a project to NADRA for Identity Document Digitization.



To a question‚ Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said a 100-KW medium-wave transmitter has been installed at Radio Pakistan Hyderabad and will commission in the second week of next month.



He said the Prime Minister allocated funds for providing financial assistance to the artists facing financial hardships.



He said special steps are being taken to promote the artists particularly belonging to neglected areas including FATA.



The Minister said there is no disparity in remuneration of artists on the basis of language‚ region or province.



Responding to a call attention notice moved by Farhatullah Babar and others‚ Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that State Bank of Pakistan enjoys full autonomy.



The Minister clarified that the former State Bank Governor Yasin Anwar left the office on his free will and the new Governor will be appointed in a transparent manner in 90 days.



Minister for Law‚ Justice and Human Rights laid before the House‚ the Gas Theft Control and Recovery Ordinance‚ 2014.



The chair referred the ordinance to the concerned standing committee.



The Senate has been adjourned to meet at 3:00 pm on Monday.
