The International Mother Language Day is being observed on February 21 (Friday).
The theme for this year is “Local languages for global citizenship: spotlight on science”.
International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational‚ Scientific and Cultural Organization in November 1999.
Purpose of observance of the day is to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by people of the world and to promote unity in diversity and international understanding‚ through multilingualism and multiculturalism.
International Mother Language Day is observed every year to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage.
