Analysts discuss South Korean Premierâ€™s ongoing visit to Pakistan and opportunities for enhanced bilateral trade between Pakistan and South Korea.
Pakistan and South Korea have agreed to further enhance bilateral trade, especially cooperation in energy, trade and investment sectors.
Talking to the News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan, Minister of State for Privatization Muhammad Zubair, said: South Korea has made tremendous economic achievements over the past 30 years. Foreign direct investment is necessary for Pakistan’s economy. There are vast opportunities for South Korean investors to invest in different projects in Pakistan.”
Muhammad Mazhar Khan, Vice President Pakistan Business Association in South Korea, said: Pakistani and South Korean companies are discussing a number of joint projects. Hopefully, many of these joint ventures will be finalised in coming days.”
Dr. Gulfaraz Ahmed, former Secretary Petroleum, said: South Korean investors want to establish industries in the developing countries like Pakistan, where labour is cheap. Pakistan offers vast opportunities to Korean investors in different fields.”
Dr. Abid Qayyum Sulehri, Executive Director of Sustainable Development Policy Institute, said: Pakistan offers numerous investment opportunities to South Korean businesses. Pakistan is also a vast market for Korean electronic consumer goods.”
Dr. Salman Shah, former Finance Advisor, said: Pakistan can be a destination for tourism for South Korean tourists due to various Buddhist sites. Pakistan’s demography is favorable for Korean investors. However, we have to tackle the menace of terrorism to attract foreign investment.”
