Pakistan reaffirms commitment to work with international community for peace, stability and development in Afghanistan
Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to work with international community for peace, stability and development in Afghanistan.
The commitment came during a meeting between Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the UN Secretary General’s Special envoy Nicholas Haysom in Islamabad on Friday.
The two sides reviewed the emerging political and security dynamics, and international efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Adviser said Pakistan wished to constructively and meaningfully engage with Afghanistan in all spheres of bilateral relations. The Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process at Islamabad next month will significantly contribute towards the goal of peace in war torn country.
Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan would facilitate the resumption of peace process, if approached by the Afghan Government.He said intra-Afghan peace dialogue will require strong regional backing.
The two sides also discussed repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
The Adviser urged that UNHCR must step up its efforts to mobilize international support to develop absorption capacity of Afghan Government for sustainable integration of returning refugees.
