Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting of parliamentary leaders in Islamabad today.

The meeting is part of the prime minister's decision to take major political parties into confidence over China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The project which was agreed during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan last month, will bring a new era of economic prosperity to the region. The mega project will connect Gwadar Port to China’s Xinjiang region, via a network of highways, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas.

The economic corridor is considered central to Pakistan-China relations and will run about 3,000 km from Gwadar to Kashgar.
