In Karachi, 43 persons including women and children have been killed and 13 others injured when unidentified armed persons opened indiscriminate firing on a community bus in Safoora, Goth area of the city. There were about 60 to 65 persons on board.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemn the firing incident in Karachi

Prime Minister cancels all his appointments and decides to reach Karachi personally to view the situation and chaired a high level meeting in Karachi. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also announced observance of countrywide day of mourning on Thursday over Karachi bus tragedy. The national flag would fly at half mast. 

Speaking in Radio Pakistan’s Nuqta-e-Nazar program, State Minister for Interior Engr. Baligh-ur-Rehman said, “This is very brutal attack and continuation of the terrorist attack. After the successful operation against terrorists these attacks have been reduced in last months. This incident is very tragic incident and government will take serious actions against those culprits involved in this heinous act. We don’t need to talk on rumors. First we should wait for investigation report and then we would be able to draw a conclusion.” 

State Minister for Communication Abdul Hakeem Bloch said, “It is a big incident of our history and I condemn the brutality of terrorists. We need to take strict action against the terrorists. Operation Zarb-e-Azb is in full swing and Karachi operation is also in progress with full pace. This attack is an effort to derail operations against terrorists in the country. The economic condition of our country has been improving after the improvement in law and order situation. China is investing huge amount in Pakistan and CPEC is a major project. Terrorists want to derail the progress and prosperity of the country. 

PML-N leader Senator Nehal Hashmi said, “This incident is condemnable and terrorists should be punished for safety of minority. This attack is also an attack on the thinking’s of Quid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. We need unity in this crucial time and we can defeat our enemy only by stand united. Our government is committed to root out terrorism from our soil and we will finish this menace of terrorism from the country with the help of security forces.” 

Taking part in the discussion, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shallah Raza said, “The whole nation is upset on this tragic incident in which a huge number of people have lost their lives. This attack is the reaction of Karachi operation. The whole nation should show unity and stand united with our security forces against terrorism. Government of Sindh is using its full potential to eliminate the terrorism and criminal elements from the province. We are hopeful that after the completion of operation against terrorism in Tribal Areas and Karachi the law and order situation will be improved further in the country.”

Defense Analyst, Dr. Muhammad Khan said, “The whole nation is in deep grief on this sad incident. We need to think about that why we are not achieving our goals after such a huge sacrifice. Pakistani nation is a brave and strong nation. We will fight against the terrorist and they will be failed in their agenda to destabilize Pakistan. We need to sort out the links and roots of terrorism in the country. Security forces are paying huge sacrifices in operation against terrorists. Nation should support the security forces and identify the suspicious elements in their cities. Army Chief and Prime Minister have reached at Karachi and a high level meeting is being held today. We need to take serious steps against militants to secure our tomorrow.” 

Senior Analyst, Dr. Huma Baqai said, “Pakistan is in war like situation and multiple factors are working to destabilize Pakistan. These elements are not willing to see good our relations with Afghanistan and they are also worried over successful Zarb-e-Azb operation against terrorists. Today’s attack can be the reaction of operation Zarb-e-Azb which has broken the back of terrorist network in the country. We need to show unity at this time to counter the terrorism. We need to finish the politics of allegation. We need to take some serious steps against terrorists with full unity and devotion.”
