Pakistan Day will be celebrated on 23 March (Thursday) with renewed commitment to defeat the forces of extremism and terrorism and work hard for the progress, prosperity and stability of the country.

It was on this day in 1940 that a mammoth gathering of Muslims at Minto Park in Lahore adopted historic resolution that paved the way for a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia.

It will be a public holiday, while national flag would be hoisted at all major government and private buildings.

Special prayers will be offered after Fajar prayers for security, progress, and solidarity of the country.

Various political, social, religious, cultural and educational organizations have arranged functions to highlight different aspects of the struggle for Pakistan and lives of our founding fathers.

Radio Pakistan has also planned day-long program to mark the day including features, dramas, mushairas, discussion programmes and interviews of prominent personalities about different facets of Pakistan Movement.

Meanwhile, preparations for 23rd March Parade are also in full swing at Shakarparian Parade ground Islamabad.

Special feature of the parade this year will be participation of Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) China's Tri Services and Saudi Special Force’s contingents and Turkish Jannisary Military band (Mehteran).

Amongst other dignitaries, Chief of South African National Defence Force, General Solly Zacharia SHOKE will also witness the parade.
