Hundreds of civilians used by militants as human shields freed in Syria
The Islamic State has freed hundreds of civilians used by the militants as human shields while retreating in northern Syria.
US-backed forces said today that some of the civilians were able to escape while others were freed.
Earlier, US.-backed Kurdish and Arab forces have seized full control of the northern city of Manbij near the Turkish border from Islamic State.
A spokesman for Syria Democratic Forces said the city is now fully under our control but sweeping operations are underway.
