Gun battle is underway between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian armed men to get control over some important buildings in the eastern town of Sloviansk.
Sources say one security officer was killed and five wounded in the fighting.
Ukraine Interior Minister Arsen Avako has said troops are involved in an anti-terror operation.
He said camouflaged armed men seized a police station and local Security Service office in attacks at the town.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is due in China next week to meet President Xi Jinping to discuss the Ukraine situation.
Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said that Lavrov will discuss the Ukraine issue ahead of four-way talks between diplomats from the European Union, the United States, Ukraine and Russia in Geneva.
