The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a resolution with consensus welcoming the inauguration of landmark Kartarpur corridor between Pakistan and India.

The resolution was sponsored by Pakistan and the Philippines on promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue to advance a culture of peace.

The resolution said the opening of the peace corridor to Sikhism's holiest shrines is in the spirit of interfaith harmony and peaceful neighbourhood.

The General Assembly also appreciated the agreement between Pakistan and India to allow visa-free access to pilgrims of all faiths, especially the Sikh community from across the world.

Prime Minister Imran Khan performed the opening ceremony of Kartarpur corridor on November 9, before a huge gathering of pilgrims from across the world, marking the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.

Later talking to APP, Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN Munir Akram said the General Assembly's resolution reflects the level of international appreciation for the decision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said the message has gone loud and clear that who is working for peace in the region and whose actions pose greatest threat to it, obviously referring to India's illegal and provocative actions in occupied Kashmir.
