COAS directs to provide all possible assistance in Neelum Valley incident

At least 25 tourists were feared drowned when a bridge collapsed in Neelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir today.

According to police, the incident occurred when the touring students from Punjab were crossing the bridge at Kundal Shai area which collapsed due to pressure.

Four dead bodies and eleven injured have been rescued so far.

The injured students are being shifted to CMH Muzaffarabad through army helicopters.

Personnel of the Pakistan Army are also assisting in the operation.

Police sources told Radio Pakistan that victims are students of different medical and private colleges of Lahore and Faisalabad, who were touring the scenic Neelum valley.

Meanwhile, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, Inspector General Police Azad Kashmir and other high ranking officials have rushed to the spot and monitoring the rescue operation.

Three of five students died in Nelum Valley bridge collapse accident have been identified as Abdul Rehman and Shehzad from Faisalabad and Nadeem from Islamabad.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, eleven injured students have been shifted to Muzaffarabad hospital.

They are: Abrar from Burawala, Hamza, Adeel, Waleed, Zubair, Anam, Sana Mir from Faisalabad, Laraib and Aleena from Jhang, and Iqra and Aleena from Sahiwal.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has expressed grief and sorrow over the accident in Neelum Valley.

In a statement, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to make utmost efforts in rescue operation.

General Bajwa has expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives in Nelum Valley bridge collapse accident.  

He directed for all possible assistance to civil admission for relief and rescue. Special SSG divers team has been sent for search operation.

Pakistan Army Rescue and relief efforts are underway as Army troops along with Doctors and paramedics have reached incident site.  

Four dead bodies and 11 injured have been evacuated by helicopter from Shahkot to Muzffarabad.

Pakistan Navy has also sent divers team to take part in ongoing rescue and relief operation.
