Pakistan to receive 15 million doses of COVID vaccine under COVAX global initiative

Pakistan will receive 15 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by May 2021, under COVAX, a global initiative aimed at equitable access to the vaccines.

This was announced by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in a meeting with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Berlin. 

Germany is the co-founder and biggest contributor to COVAX, led by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, World Health Organization and others.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, German Foreign Minister terming the visit by Foreign Minister Qureshi as a great honour, hoped it will further strengthen and diversify the bilateral relations between two countries.

The two Foreign Ministers had an in-depth and comprehensive exchange of views on the entire gamut of relations and possibilities to expand cooperation in various fields.

Regional and international developments of mutual interest including Pakistan-India relations, grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, EU DisinfoLab, Financial Action Task Force, Afghan peace process, China Pakistan Economic Corridor and investment opportunities in Special Economic Zones were also discussed.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Maas to visit Pakistan, which he accepted.
