Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says the Government would work with Council of Common Interests to develop a cohesive national health policy.

He was speaking at a ceremony to mark World Health Day in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister said the Government would also provide necessary resources for National Health Survey. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi made a firm commitment to ensure provision of quality health care for people.

He said health is a provincial subject under the 18th constitutional amendment but would not absolve the Federal Government of responsibility in the sector. The Federal Government is providing vision and direction in improving state of health in the country.

He said Prime Minister's Health Progamme is targetting poorest of the poor and there is need to expand the programme. He said immunization programme has been strengthened and the country is in the last stages of eradicating polio. TB is also being addressed through an aggressive programme.

The Prime Minister said besides quality health care, the Government is also focusing on the issue of malnutrition, population programme and human resource development.

He pointed out that sixty thousand qualified doctors produced by Pakistan are working in Latin America but the quality of healthcare in the country has not reached at the desired level.
