Afghanistan: 53 Taliban claimed killed

Security officials on Monday claimed killing at least 53 Taliban militants and wounding 28 others across the country since last night.

Rahmat Shah Qamti, fourth brigade army commander in Uruzgan province, told Pajhwok Afghan New security forces targeted Taliban hideouts in Khas Uruzgan and Chora districts late on Sunday night.

The nighttime raid resulted in the killing of 28 rebels and wounding of 16 others. Some weapons were also seized by security forces, he concluded.

The Taliban in a statement claimed capturing two security posts and inflicting casualties on security forces in Shashpar locality of Khas Uruzgan district.

Elsewhere, in Ghazni province, 14 Taliban were killed and a number of others were wounded in drone strikes in Mirkalan and Nazar Khan Localities of Deh Yak district late on Sunday night.

Ghazni governor’s spokesman Mohammad Arif Noori said the drone targeted a home hosting a meeting of insurgents.

Rahmanullah, a resident of the area, said ten dead bodies were pulled out from the rubble until this morning.
