Analysts say Pak-Afghan-Turkey trilateral summit will help maintain peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam says supporting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan is part of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
Speaking in Nuqta-e-Nazar programme of News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan on Wednesday‚ she said peace in Afghanistan will also have good impact on Pakistan.
She said Pakistan-Afghanistan-Turkey Trilateral Summit is being organized at a time when transition is going to take place in Afghanistan. She said Presidential elections will be held in Afghanistan this year and withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan will also take place.
The spokesperson said the forum provides good opportunity to the member countries to resolve and discuss different issues.
Taking part in the programme‚ Pakistan's Ambassador to Turkey Haroon Shaukat said the trilateral summit assumes special significance as it takes place in the backdrop of political and military transition in Afghanistan.
He said Turkey enjoys cordial relations with Pakistan and Afghanistan and therefore‚ is trying to facilitate reconciliation process aimed at restoring peace and stability in war-torn Afghanistan.
He said the summit would discuss matters relating to confidence building in Afghanistan as well as its security and economic environment.
To a question‚ the Ambassador said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would hold wide-ranging talks with Turkish leadership on ways and means to strengthen bilateral relations in different sectors. He said the Prime Minister would also meet heads of some of the major Turkish companies to explore possibilities of cooperation especially in power and infrastructure fields.
Professor Dr. Ijaz Khattak from International Department of Peshawar University said the trilateral summit will discuss peace and stability in Afghanistan. Turkey and Pakistan both can play important role for establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Defence analyst Brig. (R) Haris Nawaz‚ in his comments said Pakistan-Afghanistan-Turkey Summit assumes special importance at a time when foreign troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan. During the summit‚ the three sides will discuss matters pertaining to peace and development in Afghanistan. The summit will help remove misunderstanding between the three countries. The summit will have good impact on the peace process in Afghanistan. He said Turkey and Pakistan have to convince President Hamid Karzai that military cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is in the interest of both the countries.
Chairman Institute of International Relations and Peace Studies‚ NUML‚ Prof. Dr. Z.A. Qureshi also termed the trilateral summit very important saying it will pave the way for establishing permanent peace in the region. He said Turkey has remarkable role in the development of Pakistan. He said strategic partnership is being developed between Pakistan and Turkey which will help maintain peace and stability in Afghanistan.
